March, 2020
March became an interesting month. Jeanette left of March 4 and made it home fine – she didn’t get sick. During the first half of the month, our lives seemed normal. We met the Rosenwald’s from Fire Escape (DF44) and had Inshallah (DF 48) on our dock for two nights. Barb continued to work on Quilts of Valor quilts and meet with the group at Quilt Lovers Hangout. She learned how to use a long arm and spent 4 days quilting quilts at the shop. We were starting to hear more about the “C” virus but the awakening for us was March 20 when we went to the grocery store for weekly shopping. Most shelves were empty! We couldn’t believe it. Our life changed on that day. While FL wasn’t under “Shelter in Place” yet, we started doing so. By the end of March, FL had joined a number of other states. But we are very confused about what is considered essential: Gun stores and ranges were open, restaurants could do carry out, and people were still going to the beach (national news was all over that). Boats that were scheduled to stop at the house, called and cancelled – we were grateful that they did this.
We stepped up and supported local restaurants with Take Out Tuesday. Barb stepped up and supported AGLCA (Looper Association) when they had to cancel the May rendezvous. She worked on a webinar presentation for April. Barb continues to sew and work on the computer, while Dave reads and plays on iPad. We do our weekly cleaning schedule but otherwise we are taking the opportunity to enjoy old movies, exercise, and swim. We hope everyone is well and safe.

February, 2020

The weather was great at the beginning of Feb so walking, biking, and swimming were completed each day. It did turn cold towards the end of Feb so these activities were reduced. The month slid by with no DeFever Cruiser gatherings. The two that were planned were canceled at the last minute. Word was starting to spread about the “C” virus so people weren’t really interested in gathering. We didn’t have any boats at the dock either.
Dave’s sister Jeanette joined us for the month. We did a lot of quilting, shopping and visiting while she was here. In fact February was very productive when it came to finished sewing projects. The three pictures show three of the projects that we worked on. I have been spending many hours sewing quilt tops for Quilts of Valor Cape Coral Group. I quilted one of the tops that I helped to make. It took 2 weeks but when done it was great. Jeanette worked on the squares for a queen size quilt we were making for a great niece. I did the boarders. We both worked on a baby quilt – Jeanette put the top together and sewed on the binding and I quilted it. We worked and finished a number of other projects also. By the end of Feb, Jeanette was worried about getting home as we started to hear more about the “C” virus. She shipped home the quilt projects that were finished and prepared for traveling home.

Jan, 2020

Dave turned 75 on Jan 10 – he is still moving around and enjoying life. His sister had a great birthday present sent to him! He loves his wine – that may be why he is still going strong!
We had our first boat in the dock for 2020. Swink’s arrived on Jan 2 hoping to stay a few days, but ended up here for 10 days waiting for weather window to head to the Key’s. During their stay we had a dinner party for 10 people, went to the Cape Coral art fair, ran around to stores (Lorrie loves to shop), Roger and Dave had dental appointments, and had cocktails each evening. We had the Shorts in the guest room for one night also – always a party here in January. We said fair sailing on Jan 12 at 7:00 a.m. as Reality left the dock, the sun was barely up but the tide was right for their travel plans. We continued with our exercise program even while we had dock guests.
We had our largest DFC gathering on Jan 14 for cocktails and dinner. There were 14 for cocktails and 12 for dinner so we ordered pizzas from our favorite restaurant – they delivered and everyone dug in. Barb made a Greek salad to go with pizza. Didn’t have much left overs.
We had a few to do house list items completed in January – nothing major but regular maintenance items that required being home and waiting for people to arrive. Barb spent time working on QOV quilts – she takes quilt blocks and assembles quilt tops (no count was kept of how many she put together). We were able to swim most of the month as the weather was warm and the pool heater worked well. We also met friends and former colleagues during the month for dinner or lunch in various places -- always nice to see friends both boating and others. When looking back we were with people at least three times a week, no wonder Barb was tired of cleaning the house.
